Risk & Resilience New Zealand Summit 2022

Camms was delighted to be a part of the 2022 Risk & Resilience New Zealand Summit on August 9th-10th 2022 at the Aotea Centre, Auckland! Here’s a recap…

Risk resilience is so much more than just good crisis management and effective business continuity planning – it’s built on solid systems and processes, which in turn allows for a culture of resilience to develop.

On the 9th & 10th August we had the fantastic opportunity to sponsor and be a part of the inaugural Risk & Resilience New Zealand Summit to discuss risk, resilience, and decision-making in uncertain times. Conceptualised by New Zeeland’s leading association for risk professionals RiskNZ created the event to support organisations to embed awareness of effective mechanisms to manage and mitigate risk.

The event was also created to support the development of the risk profession, analyse the changing role of the risk professional within modern organisations and redefine the value they deliver to the business.

The conference, which was opened by RiskNZ Chair, Jane Rollin presented a fantastic platform to catch up, network, share experiences and spin the wheel for some great prizes – in addition to learning about some great tools to help risk practitioners in their work!

Key themes explored during the summit included resilience & strategy; leadership & risk culture; board approaches to risk, managing project risk; climate & environmental risk; reputational risk; cultural risk; cybersecurity; and embedding organisation–wide risk literacy & awareness.

The inaugural event also charted approaches to resilience and risk with case studies and insights from a number of industries and risk scenarios to help identify pervasive features of resilience and risk responses that define success. The 2022 summit also mapped the connection between strategy and risk, recognising that strategy drives risk and that the ability to execute their strategy is often the biggest risk an organisation faces.

Day 1 in particular saw breakout sessions focused on assessing the current dynamic risk environment, developing the risk profession, and the role of the risk profession in business. Followed by a panel discussion on exploring the link between risk and strategy. Which saw experts offer insight into balancing risk strategy, identifying the external risks to your strategy, focusing governance, and exploring the link between risk and innovation offering insight into how to incorporate uncertainty into your strategic decision making.

Day 2 saw sessions on managing cultural risk in the context of a bi-cultural Aotearoa, managing projects, cyber & digital, and supply chain risk.

We were thrilled to be a part of the inaugural Risk and Resilience New Zealand Summit 2022 and enjoyed the opportunity to connect, share insights and explore current strategic risk themes with business leaders and risk professionals across the country under one roof. Effective risk management is about managing an interdependency of operational risks distributed across the business – that simply isn’t possible without embedding accountability and ownership of risk at all levels and achieving risk literacy across the organisation.” – Dean Rogers, Regional Manager, Camms
